LOKALEKT is a vending machine concept with focus on User Interface and User Experience. It was my BA thesis and I worked with Felix Marschner on it.
It provides a new platform for local retailers - a stage where they can present their products and their shop. Through this they can enlarge their catchment area and also sell 24/7. For the local stores it’s important to maintain a certain degree of esteem. On one hand, the online shopping trends and the big companies are big competition for them. On the other hand research has shown the consumers behavior will change back to the identification with local shops. In this scenario, LOKALEKT connects the customers with the local retailers. The vending machines fetch the customer where he moves everyday, at a public place.
Every pedestrian could be a customer. Maybe it’s a tourist looking for a bit of atmosphere of the city on his way. It could also be a resident who identifies with and likes to support his city.
Food Container Accessories
Designed in an university project at HS Coburg for Toppits®. Our preset theme was "serve & present"
I worked together with Moritz Schönrich on this one. We made the first place with the collection of accessories!
Inlay (2. & 3. pic) is a series of bowls, plates and trays, which is adjusted to the food containers „Freshbox“ Food like antipasti, finger food and snacks can be arranged on the „Inlay“ long before they are served. Once in the food container one can transport them easily and air-proof.
Shake (4. pic) is a lid based accessory, which gives the user the possibility to prepare salad in just one bowl. It’s a low tech and low cost alternative to the salad spinner. - Just shake it!
Skala (5. pic) Since Toppits did not have a measuring jug, but a „one liter cup“ we designed “Skala”. You can apply it on the thread of the jug and then measure all liquid and solid ingredients. It has a muzzle with integrated finger handles to pour out the liquid content, and a hole to hang it.
The idea behind Zeitmaschine (eng.: time machine) is, that the sleepy user can activate the snooze function by tilting the alarm clock to the left. The missing corner is cut in a 30 degree angle. This equates exactly ten minutes, which the minute hand “tilts backwards”. This plays with the impression, that the user turned back time, and therefore can sleep another ten minutes.
The main task of this project was to design one alarm clock an implement it in four different manufacturing methods. Injection molding, aluminium extrusion, sheet metal bending and a material of our choice (we used “Kraftplex” in a layer composition).
I designed Zeitmaschine together with Felix Marschner
Wärme & Licht
This was a University project wich I worked on with Nina Nieratschker for Villeroy&Boch.
Relaxation through steam and infra red warmth. Under the wooden construction there are blast pipes which let the steam ascent. One can addessential oils or herbs.
The insetted infra red heating offers a precise and dry heat treatment. The muscles relax, the senses regenerate. On one side of the lounger a small waterfall arises out of the wall and ends in a floral shaped bowl. The ripple of the waterfall adds to the atmosphere. The water can be used as a cold contrast to the heat treatments.
The OLED area lights add to the comfortable atmosphere in the bathroom. Because of the waterproof surface and the size of 90x40 cm they also perform as a shower curtain. Adjustable in height and degree the light leafs are a new interpretation of the shower landscape.
consists of two single elements: a high, elegant standing shower and separate hose. One can choose between a powerful waterfall and a crackling summer rain. The hose is either for easy cleaning of the surroundings or a shower head for activating cold-warm-treatments.
is a table lamp, based on the idea of reflection. Like the moon reflects the light of the sun, the round aluminium plate reflects the light the actual light source. This gives the light a very soft touch. It‘s ideal for reading or working without getting blinded by a light.
The aluminium plate is polished on one side, on the other side its sandblasted, which allows to direct or scatter the light. The two wooden sticks are linked by a small part made of two stainless steel tubes. This simplistic connection is fixed by gravity and friction, but can be adjusted with only one hand.
The pictures show the first prototype.
Wayfinding for the "Design Campus Open 2015"
It's always a problem to deal with temporary signage in bigger contexts. It's got to be fire safe, it can't stand in the way, there's always an existing signage on the perfect spots and most important it has to stick out in a crowded exhibition. Since all the banners and posters of the exhibition hang straight we desided to tilt our signs, and make them look like stickers. The cut out text though is precisely horizontal and aligned to the door frames or corners. This tension together with the neon pink foil can't be overlooked.
Together with Nina Nieratschker I designed the new website of the brand "Womanizer".
The task was, to create a clean look with focus on Lifestyle and the world around a product.
Schräglage is a redesign of an existing consumer MMA welding machine. The task was to design a dynamic and modern formal case made of bended sheet metal. Ergonomics and handling also played a big role. Through little features the company wanted to achieve a benefit in the homogeneous market. The new design ought to fit into the new design language of the pro series “black line”.
It comes with a built in self recessing strap which offers two carrying option. In the hand like a suitcase for normal carrying and over the shoulder like a messenger bag. This comes in handy while "over the head welding" or other uncomfortable positions.
